The making and breaking of the McCain maverick myth

If you have time for a long read, Rolling Stone has an excellent 10-page article putting the myth of the war hero maverick McCain into perspective.

Short version: McCain is, and always been, a lazy, spoiled, hot-headed, self-serving opportunist who was a reckless hot dogger, not a war hero. He's addicted to sex and gambling, he hates women, and he doesn't care who he steps on to get ahead.
