This Day in Music: Nov. 19, 1955 - Carl Perkins records "Blue Suede Shoes" at Sun Studios in Memphis
By Richard K. Barry
Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes" hit No. 2 in the U.S. in 1956. Of course, that other guy out of Sun Studios did okay with it too, not to mention Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran. Perkins wrote the song, which is considered one of the first rockabilly tunes, and certainly a rock 'n' roll standard.
