This day in history - May 11, 1927: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is founded
On this day in 1927, the very same organization that gives us the Academy Awards and the statue pictured above came into existence. I was interested to learn that Louis B. Mayer came up with the idea initially as an organization that would mediate labor disputes and improve the industry's image.
