Limbaugh-Cheney
By Michael J.W. Stickings
I love this:
How nice is it, at long last, that Democrats are calling out the Republicans for being a party of extremism and demagoguery? And how even nicer is it that it is the Obama White House that isn't taking any shit?
Sure, sure, sure, the right and its media minions, many in the so-called mainstream, will say that Obama is just being partisan, and thereby violating his own supposedly post-partisan principles, and Cheney may not be #2 among Republicans, given all the love/lust for Palin, and also for Coulter, but Gibbs was right to place Cheney right at the top of the GOP.
If Republicans want to run behind Dear Leader Rush and deify Cheney, and they clearly do on both counts, it serves them right have their real leadership exposed for what it is.
I love this:
Yesterday, when CNN's Ed Henry asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs for his reaction to Cheney's criticisms [of Obama on Sunday -- see, here, here, here, and here], Gibbs said that CNN invited Cheney because "Rush Limbaugh was busy," and called Cheney "the next most popular member of the Republican cabal."

On Morning Joe today, they were debating whether or not it is appropriate for the press secretary to be flip like that.
But that misses the point that it was a completely ridiculous thing for Cheney to say. Pure fear mongering. He needed to be called out on it. Plus, if the press secretary can't have a little fun with flat-out ludicrous statements like Cheney's, he's going to fall asleep at the podium listening to all the dumb questions from the press. I thought Gibbs' response was great.
