Don't ask, don't tell, the Pentagon is just too busy to deal with its own bigotry

By Michael J.W. Stickings

According to SecDef Gates, the Pentagon is just too busy to do anything about the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that discriminates against gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. He and Obama, after all, have "a lot on [their] plates" at the moment.

Bullshit. It's not that Gates is too busy, it's that he doesn't want to deal with it. As Yglesias puts it, "a full plate is no excuse for discrimination."

There will always be a lot on his plate -- "Gates could just decide that with as much on his plate as he has at the moment, he'll make sure we stop persecuting them.

And if he won't, shouldn't his boss step in and overturn such blatant discrimination? Or will he, like Gates, continue to enable bigotry?
