Gore's objective

By Michael J.W. Stickings

The Vine's Brad Plumer assesses Al Gore's NYT op-ed (which I first mentioned here):

It'd be reasonable, I think, to read Gore's op-ed more as an attempt to broaden the discussion of what's possible in building a clean-energy economy, rather than presenting a specific plan of action.

Perhaps so -- but, even so, it's the right thing to do. Best to aim high, best to get people talking about what's possible, especially with new leadership coming to the White House.

Gore may not, and likely won't, end up with a Cabinet post, but there would be no better "outside conscience of the administration," as Brad puts it, especially with respect to the most pressing issue of our time (yes, even more pressing than the financial crisis, given that it concerns the very survival of our civilization).
