Lies, damned lies, and Sarah Palin ("a fraud of truly comical dimensions")

By Michael J.W. Stickings

Josh Marshall:

We've now had a week of blaring headlines and one-liners about Sarah Palin as the mavericky, pork-busting reformer from Alaska. But we seem to be witnessing the first stirrings of a backlash and a dawning realization that the "Sarah Palin" we've heard so much about over the last few days is a fraud of truly comical dimensions.

The McCain camp has made her signature issue shutting down the Bridge to Nowhere. But as The New Republic put it today that's just "a naked lie." And pretty much the same thing has been written today in Newsweek, the Washington Post, the AP, the Wall Street Journal. Yesterday even Fox's Chris Wallace called out Rick Davis on it. (Do send more examples when you find them.)

On earmarks she's an even bigger crock. On the trail with McCain they're telling everyone that she's some kind of earmark slayer when actually, when she was mayor and governor, in both offices, she requested and got more earmarks than virtually any city or state in the country.

Think about that. On the stump, not a single word that comes out of her mouth -- or not a single word that the McCain folks put in her mouth -- is anything but a lie. I know that sounds like hyperbole. But just go down the list. None of them bear out.

That's right, it's all a big lie. And I think Josh has come up with the best description of Palin yet: "a fraud of truly comical dimensions."

Let's make sure to credit the media, the much-maligned (and deservedly so) media, for this. Even major MSM outlets like the AP -- hell, even major right-wing MSM outlets like the WSJ -- are on the case, exposing Palin's (and McCain's) lies.

And the lies keep coming. As Think Progress is reporting, Palin repeated her "Bridge to Nowhere" lie at an event today in Ohio.

She repeated not just the lie but her now-standard "thanks, but no thanks" line. She's so much of a fraud that all she does is repeat the same media-friendly one-liners over and over and over. People say she's so charismatic, so likeable, but behind that smile with a sarcastic sneer there's just a robotic political core to go along with the extremist right-wing ideology. As a political figure, there's nothing genuine or authentic about her.

Unless we call her a genuine and authentic liar.

  • Likable and charismatic describes virtually every con-man and many tyrants: at least before they take power.

I was about to write something about a comedy team. Many duos, from Cheech and Chong to Laurel and Hardy came to mind, but none of them were larcenous, devious or demented and although Frank and Jesse James were Charismatic and knew quite a bit more about banking and economics than St. John and Sarah Magdalene, they weren't comical.

I'm hoping this sick infatuation will pass like a bad case of diarrhea and it's very good to see the press start to wake up and do their job.

  • Welcome to politics?
The reason is presidents are easily paid and those running can easily manipulate the system to their advantage such as how bush bought the election with the Florida voting scandal. The reason its the way it is now is because everyone is lobbied meaning someone else is their boss paying their check. The federal reserve prints money now they are lending themselves money by taking it from the taxpayers work and profits to fatten their billionaire pockets at the expense of peoples misery. No one can stop them because are the ones who own the federal reserve. They stop printing money the poor suffer and the reason is because the rich can stock up on supplies because the plan would be to stock up while money is worth something stop printing money then it becomes worthless and now the poor kill eachother and lose homes just so they can live in excess. They would rather force the poor to lose their homes so the bank owners the same owners as the federal reserve does not have to print money because this will lower the value of their own "power" aka money.
The reason everything is happening is because it was planned.. rockefeller... and Rothschild. You act like the ancestors of todays slave masters are different from yesterdays slave masters...their power derives from media brainwashing tactics and divide and conquer. People don't know whats going on they as long as a criminal syndicate prints money we are their slaves. They will destroy anything that opposes them.

  • Sarah Palin is a fraud and a phony. She is very involved with this ex General Campbell whom she has now promoted to Lt. Gov. of Alaska. They deserve each other as phonies of the decade and have been playing footsie for years.

  • Sarah Palin is a phoney, but not because of earmarks. She's a novice to government and politics. She didnt have the savy to get earmarks when she was mayor or governor. So just forget the criticism from the major media outlets. It's giving her too much credit. Sarah Palin had a meteoric rise in politics. Like Barack Obama. She got elected to the PTA on a whim and took off from there. She's neither a student of politics or well versed on the issues. She is connected though. And connections always explain a meteoric rise in both the public and private sector. As a member of the Eastern Star (assumably high level) she advocated for Freemasonry in Alaska during a month long promotion of this organization. Freemasonry is considered both a religious and fraternal organization. This in itself is a no no. But her affiliation with this organization most likely explains her ascendency on the state and national scene. Let's face it. An unknown PTA President doesnt go from small town mayor to Vice Presidential candidate; especially overnight, without major connections. Believe me Sarah Palin is very highly connected. With John McCain's association in the CFR it is no doubt she is connected. Sarah Palin is elite. And anyone who has the luxury of resigning from their job, especially as Governor, during a severe recession should be considered unreliable as a candidate for any office. This was an affront to the American people. What nerve. Millions of people who would do anything to have a job, least of all governor, witnessed this person; who took an oath of office decide that she had better things to do with her time. As in a national book signing tour. This is outrageous. I am a rock ribbed conservative warning the American people not to fall for Sarah Palin. You will be sorely disappointed. She is not on your side.
