In praise of Dennis Kucinich (and the impeachement of George W. Bush)

By Michael J.W. Stickings

Think Progress: "This evening on the House floor, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) [presented] 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush to Congress. The first article Kucinich presented regarded the war in Iraq. "Article 1: Creating a secret propaganda campaign to manufacture a false case for war against Iraq."

Major news outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post (which is currently running a snarky Reuters story deep down on its website, hidden) aren't making much of this, if anything at all, and, needless to say, nothing will come of Kucinich's efforts. The Democratic leadership wants nothing of impeachment, even if many Democrats do.

Thankfully, progressive outlets like TP and The Raw Story are following the story closely.

Thankfully, too, Kucinich is doing what far too many Democrats are too cowardly to do.

Here's a clip of the opening of Kucinich's speech. You can find the rest of speech broken up into segments -- article by article -- at VoiceofAmericans2008.

  • It's good to see that he's a man of stamina as well as courage.

  • Michael, I read this post as a result of a link at the top of the Memeorandum page. Good post, congratulations on the positioning.

  • Yes, let's waste tax payer dollars to impeach a president with 7 1/2 months left in office. Why don't you focus on getting Obama elected and stop the nonsense? No one of import is going to listen to this stuff this late in the ball game.

And don't give me the let's hold him accountable crap. His low approval rating; the Democratic control of Congress; and a good shot for Obama at the presidency are sufficient for Bush to deal with.
