According to a new poll, the Virginia Senate race is a virtual tie, with Republican George Allen leading Democrat James Webb by two points, 49 to 47, within the margin of error.
MyDD's Matt Stoller notes that "Webb keeps picking up momentum in his race against George Allen". And the reason hasn't been Allen's racism or un-ethics. Rather, [t]his is a referendum on Iraq and Bush, within the confines of a state that is trending blue," although "[t]he 'Macaca' moment gave voice to the general dissatisfaction with the country, and highlighted Webb's ability to compete with Allen".
