Lott contra Rove
Crooks and Liars has the video of Trent Lott on Hardball more or less saying Karl Rove should go. Lott's a bit of a maverick now, and he's got nothing to lose, but he may be right about this. At least for Bush and the Republicans. Would Democrats prefer he stayed on as a reminder of this White House's corruption and ongoing scandals?

I've been watching Lott's transformation with interest, here in Mississippi. He has indeed become something of a maverick, and while there's considerable doubt that he'll run for re-election, it could be interesting if he does and continues this maverick streak.

Thanks for the comment, Harry. My sense is that he has nothing to lose, but how popular (or unpopular) is he down there? Is there any way he'd be beaten?

If he runs, he wins. Simple as that. He's done nothing to alienate his core voters, while some of those who would have voted for his opponent like what they see as a John McCain-like independence. I've heard rumors that he won't run, but I suspect that those are mostly wishful thinking by the Chip Pickering camp.
