The Reaction in review (June 7, 2009)

By Carol Gee

The weekend's Reactions that deserve a second look:

Sunday

By Carol Gee: "Guantanamo detainee treatment -- truth be told" -- An update on current mass media (NYT) treatment of the detainee story and the news of a detainee suicide, with HT to Greenwald, et al.

By Boatboy: "Democrat Pagan Party" -- This very interesting and insightful post exposes Newt Gingrich's latest pronouncement from on high: "The only thing that saves Gingrich's bloviating from outright insanity is that, for many of the XtianFundie sects, only their particular flavor of Xtianity is 'true,' which conveniently disavows all of the mainstream Christian churches and effectively creates the impression of oppressed minority."

Saturday

By Michael J.W. Stickings: "Newt Gingrich, pagan hypocrite" -- Michael dismembers the hypocritical arguments of a fundamentalist trio (Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Oliver North) appearing at the Rock Church Friday in "Rediscovering God in America." Interesting comment thread.

By J. Thomas Duffy: "A picture worth a few million words" -- To quote Duffy's conclusion to a fascinating sports post, "There's a lot more to read here, the arc of a mans', and photos', life ... Of fame lost, then found ... Of a legacy delayed."

By Michael J.W. Stickings: "Sotomayor, the Other" -- Michael effectively illustrates the concept of "the other," as used by the political right wing's most stereotypical thinkers.
