Quote of the Day: Matthew Dowd on McCain's Palin pick

This is part of what the former Bush strategist said yesterday:

He knows, in his gut, that he put somebody unqualified on the ballot. He knows that in his gut, and when this race is over that is something he will have to live with... He put somebody unqualified on that ballot and he put the country at risk, he knows that.

Me first, country... whatever.

Dowd may be right. Maybe McCain does know. Maybe he's known all along. Maybe he knew at the time but went ahead and did it anyway, picking Palin over Lieberman, willfully putting the country at risk. Either that, or he's astonishingly careless and clueless, even more so than most people have ever imagined.

Either way, he's a danger to the country he professes to love.
