Valley girl
By Capt. Fogg
I continue to receive e-mails chastising me for not recognizing the obvious qualifications of Sarah Heath Palin to lead our country through difficult times: war, economic crises, natural disasters. True, I can see her at a G8 meeting asking "like what do you guys actually do?" I can see her negotiating with Putin or with North Korea over nuclear proliferation. I can just see her, glassy eyed, trying to understand what the Federal Reserve chairman is saying.
Unfortunately, others only see her cute behind, her perkiness, her comfortable, smug mediocrity. I get comments like you see here, I read gushing declarations of love from people posting on newspaper blogs. I hear the anger of people who have less idea about what it takes to run a government than what it takes to report on high school sports and who think all that's needed is someone like them.
Here's Sarah in an unguarded moment -- now ask yourself if she's really so much more brilliant than Obama the over-achieving Harvard lawyer and Law Review editor. Ask if she's more informed, more inspirational, more educated, more commanding of respect and more of a charismatic leader who can inspire us to do the difficult out of love of country.
Watch and weep. Watch and realize that our future is not bound up in some Manichean struggle between good and evil or the dubious battle between left and right, rich and poor -- our future hinges on the battle between smart and stupid, nothing more and nothing less. Watch and weep America -- this is what your beloved champion thinks a world leader sounds like.
