McCain's speech

If I were a GOP donor I'd be asking for my money back right about now.

The media will eat it up just as long as it takes to clean up all that confetti, but after that they, along with America, will realize what a failure John McCain is.

I'm going to call it a night and comment tomorrow.
For now, I'll just say this: I'm not sure what was worse, the speech or the video intro (he's a mama's boy above all?). They were both pretty bad. Needless to say, McCain isn't much of an orator, but the speech was also entirely vacuous. He said a few nice things about Obama, and the closing moments were okay, and his POW story is compelling, but otherwise there was no substance at all. If anything, he just presented himself as a Republican running against his own party, and it was clear the audience didn't know what to make of much of it. He was alternately a change-happy reformer and a hardcore conservative. But it was all cliches and platitudes.

And I agree, Grant, although the media were pretty lukewarm right after the speech. They certainly aren't eating it up.
