Gates love-in

By Creature

Was anybody else left a bit nauseous by the Democratic kid-glove performance at today's Gates hearing? I understand that politically there was no real battle to be had, but did it have to be such a lovefest? Personally it seemed like Gates said a whole lotta nothing. I fear the only change the White House is considering is an increase in troops. Withdrawal expectations (and soldiers lives) be damed.

For more check out the Carpetbagger for his take on Tony Snow's take on the nuance of "no".

  • It's not what Gates said, or didn't say, that had me a bit nauseated. He acted as a would have expected (he admitted to past mistakes -- which had no reflection on him -- and was sufficiently coy about the future to allow for a multitude of options). I just couldn't grasp how the Dems were so taken by his candor. A candor he practically recanted after lunch. I think the Dems had a chance to impress upon Gates the urgency and necessity of some kind of troop withdrawal, but instead they blew kisses from the dais.
