On a lighter note, as promised -- I just watched Elvis Costello on Austin City Limits (felicitously, just as I finished the post on torture, he started playing "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding?"). He gave many fine performances, but the show was marred slightly at the end, when he called the crowd up on stage for the last minute or so of "Pump It Up," and we were subjected to Painful White People Dancing.
