Iran defies U.N. over uranium enrichment

This isn't much of a surprise. From the AP: "Iran has defied a U.N. Security Council call to freeze uranium enrichment and is stonewalling efforts to determine if it is developing nuclear arms, the International Atomic Energy Agency said [yesterday] in a report that strengthened Western calls for sanctions."

In response, Bush said that "the world is united," which it isn't. It's unlikely that Russia and China will back sanctions (at least not yet). So what does Bush mean when he says that "the diplomatic options are just beginning"? Does he plan on negotiating with Moscow and Beijing even as he negotiates with Tehran? And, other than the U.K. and Israel, who would back a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities? Certainly not Russia and China, almost certainly not France and Germany.

How did Prez Ahmadmaninejad respond to all this? With more of the same, of course: "The Iranian nation won't give a damn about such useless resolutions." (I wonder if "damn" is the literal translation.)
